Eleanor Lily Ayers was born on August 2, 2011. All seemed well with Eleanor until just before her 4 month well baby check. She had what appeared to be cold like symptoms. It was not until her pediatrician heard a heart murmur for the first time that further testing revealed that Eleanor’s heart was severely enlarged and functioning poorly. She was transported to Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital via Life Lion Helicopter that evening. It was then that her parents were told that she had dilated cardiomyopathy.Fortunately, Eleanor was able to be supported and stabilized with medication under the care of the Children’s Heart Group. In April of 2012, her period of stability on medications ended and it appeared that a heart transplant would be necessary for Eleanor. Unfortunately, Eleanor passed away before she could evaluated for placement on the list.  Her memory lives on in our hearts and in this Foundation.
